Avocados

This post has nothing to do whatsoever
with any adventures I've had recently.
I just wanted to show everyone
the size of the avocados found here.
Yet another reason to love Taiwan!
Do you even understand how much guacamole
you can make from one of these things??
A TON.
It is simply... marvelous.

And just in case you were wondering-
Yes, they are ridiculously delicious.

As was the breadstick,
which came compliments of the wonderful Kendra Kimber.

90 Days

Wow, I have a lot to catch up on!

Let's start with a fun little bit of trivia -
Not too long ago,
[Like on September 27th-ish]
I realized that I had been in this country for exactly 90 days.

People, that's halfway!!!
But...
who's counting, right?

And NOW
(because I have been rather lax in updating this little blog of mine)
I am OVER halfway through with the first six months of my stay here.

I can't even begin to describe the mess of emotions that realization brings.
So, rather than get into that,
let's move on, shall we?

When Chinese school started here in Taiwan for our students,
the Teachers of Berhan
got Tuesdays from 1:30 til 4:30 free.
The fabulous thing about this is
if your last class normally ends at 4:30,
on Tuesdays your day ends at 11:30
when you would normally get off for lunch...
It's a beautiful state of affairs.

So earlier on the same day that I realized we were halfway through,
Kendra and I decided to have a Tuesday afternoon adventure.
There is a bus that goes from Feng Yuan
(where we live and work)
to Taichung
(the bigger city nearby where we go to church)
Normally when we ride this bus,
we get off at the stop that is a block away from the church building.
But this Tuesday we decided to just keep riding
until either we reached the end or we felt inspired to get off at a stop,
whichever came first.
Well, we felt inspired to get off before we reached the end of the line,
and we then proceeded to get
wonderfully, [almost] hopelessly lost in Taichung.

We spent a glorious afternoon roaming about,
taking absolutely no pictures to document our adventures.
because I might have only had a broken camera
and we might have been too distracted
with figuring out where we were to actually take any pictures,
But either way
these comprise the only photographic evidence of that day:

Pretty pathetic, right?
And the first one was taken while we were walking to the bus,
 still in Feng Yuan.
So sad.

Anyway, the other great adventure of the day was a haircut!
I got my haircut and used [mostly] all Chinese!
:D
[There may or may not have been much
gesturing and picture pointing involved, too...
but that is beside the point.]

Let me just tell you that getting my hair cut here in Taiwan
was a Fantastic decision.
My favorite part?
The head massage,
hands down.
I'd recommend it anyday of the week.
And twice on Sundays.
Ok, kidding about that part.
But still, it was great
and should probably be required at hair salons everwhere.

(It's rather hard to tell that there was haircut
because the hairdresser put it up afterwards,
so maybe just take my word for it.)

For obvious reasons I couldn't get any pictures of my own haircut,
but I was able to get one of Kendra while this lovely lady trimmed her bangs.
I can't remember her name, but she was awesome.
I felt like she was sculpting my hair, not just cutting it!
It was kinda cool.

And to round off a splendid day -
Coldstone!!
Which was made even better
[if that's even possible]
by the fact that the people working at Coldstone sang to us.
AH!-mazing. :]

 Mmhmm..
Excellent.
